Following the Memorandum signed by President Giorgio Lupoi with the Minister of Water Resources of Kazakhstan during the State Visit of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, OICE has returned to Astana for the RES, the Regional Ecological Summit, an important international forum focused on environmental sustainability, energy transition, and green development.
During the mission, which continues in Almaty with a Business Forum on April 28 and 29, OICE had the opportunity to sign another Memorandum of Understanding in the field of waste management with Jasyl Damu JSC, a state-owned company of Kazakhstan and the country's sole national operator for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), as well as with the Union of Legal Entities 'Association of Secondary Raw Materials Processors of Kazakhstan', an association representing companies engaged in the collection, sorting, recycling, and disposal of waste in the country.
The agreement marks a significant step toward strengthening international cooperation and promoting circular economy models and sustainable waste management practices-areas in which the Italian engineering and architecture system can offer highly valuable expertise and solutions.
During the summit, OICE also had the opportunity to contribute to the proceedings through two technical sessions. In the water sector, the speech entitled Italian Water Engineering for a Sustainable Future, presented by Andrea Pestarino, Financial Institution Director of RINA S.p.A., illustrated the cross-sector expertise of the Italian system in water resource management.
In the waste management sector, Speri S.p.A., represented by Francesca De Biasi, Chair of the OICE Kazakhstan Task Group, presented the Italian experience with the speech entitled Waste to Energy: the Italian Experience, highlighting the contribution of Italian technologies and national know-how in developing sustainable solutions for waste treatment and recovery.
Several leading member companies actively participated in the mission-Speri S.p.A., RINA S.p.A., BM Studio S.r.l., and Technital S.p.A.-demonstrating the quality and capability of the Italian sector to operate effectively in complex and highly competitive international contexts. Additional member companies will also take part in the mission in Almaty.
Experiences such as the one in Astana confirm how essential these international settings are in fostering knowledge exchange, building strategic partnerships, and promoting Italian know-how in global markets.
