MEG Rome Conference 2014: presentations and documents

OICE’s Vice President Alfredo Ingletti: “MEG is the right instrument to tackle the challenges of the Mediterranean engineering market”

Over 160 participants from 10 Mediterranean Countries have attended the 10th Mediterranean Engineering Group International Conference that took place in Rome on November 27th and 28th at the Italian Trade Agency’s  Headquarters.

The Conference comprised four sessions.

The Institutional session, introduced by Riccardo Monti, President of ICE and Patrizia Lotti, President of OICE, saw the participation of Benedetto Della Vedova, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Bernardo Bini Smaghi, Member of the Inframed Fund Strategic Board,  Vittorio Calaprice, Representative of European Commission, Antonio Cancian, President of the Mediterranean Railways Network, Karine Leverger, General Director of Syntec Ingenierie and Francesco Fiermonte,  OICE’s International Program Manager.

The following three Technical sessions addressed Infrastructure, Energy & Environment and Smart Cities, challenges in the Mediterranean and were coordinated respectively by Antonino Galatà (CEO of SPEA Ingegneria Europea) Roberto Carpaneto (President and CEO of D'Appolonia) and Gabriele Scicolone (CEO Artelia Italy).

"This MEG Conference has highlighted that in the engineering sector opportunities come mainly from international cooperation.  In this context we can express our skills, our know-how and our capacity to work as a team” said Alfredo Ingletti - OICE’s Vice President for International Affairs.
Presenting Italian and Mediterranean companies experiences opened interesting perspectives for attending companies.

The OICE’s President Patrizia Lotti noted that sharing cultures and technical capacities is essential to promote networking opportunities in the Mediterranean context.

The  Conference decided to establish a turning secretariat for institutional and logistical purposes and to create technical committees dedicated to infrastructures, energy and environment, smart cities.

Forthcoming MEG activity will be a Mission to Union for the Mediterranean in Barcelona on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Barcelona Process.
